Grief

Grief has no timeline, and neither does His comfort.

Grief can make the whole world feel unfamiliar. You may believe every promise about heaven and still find yourself undone by a song, a smell, or an empty chair.

This is a place to grieve honestly, to be comforted, and to take one small step.

You are held. You are loved. You are not alone.

Your grief is not too much for God.

You may feel pressure to be further along by now, or to be strong for everyone else. You don’t have to be. Grief comes in waves, changes shape, and returns when you least expect it. That is not a lack of faith. It is love with nowhere to go. God is not hurrying you, and He does not need you to be finished. You do not have to make sense of this today. There are small, gentle things that may help, and we can start with just one.

When the tears keep coming.

You may cry in the car, in the shower, or in the middle of the grocery store. Then you may feel nothing at all for days. Both are grief. God does not turn away from your tears. He keeps them.

“You have taken account of my miseries; Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book?”

— Psalm 56:8

Nothing you have cried has gone unnoticed. Every tear is known to Him, counted, and held.

Would it help to have a gentle step forward?

Grief First Steps gives you one gentle, doable step at a time.

Start with First Steps

Remember Who is with you.

Grief makes us feel the absence. Scripture reminds us of the Presence that stays.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you.

— Isaiah 43:2

The waters are real, and so is His presence in them. You don’t have to feel comforted to be accompanied. Maybe today’s next step is simply this: I am grieving, and I will let God walk through this with me.

Take one truth with you.

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you.”

You don’t have to download anything. You don’t have to buy anything. You don’t have to be okay today. Just know that when you pass through the waters, He is with you.

Jesus knows what this feels like.

Grief can feel like a place no one else has been. Friends run out of words, and even the kind ones can land wrong. Scripture shows us a Savior who stood at a grave and did not hurry past the sorrow.

“Jesus wept.”

— John 11:35, NASB 2020

He knew what He was about to do, and He still wept with the ones He loved. Your sorrow does not embarrass Him or catch Him off guard. He meets you in it, and His comfort is not only a promise for later.
