He is already listening.

You may want a richer prayer life and not know where to start. Maybe you sit down, the words don’t come, and you wonder if you are doing it right. You are not failing at prayer. You are learning it, and God is patient with learners.

This is a place to set the pressure down and take one small step toward Him.

You are heard. You are loved. You are welcome to come as you are.

You don’t need the right words.

You may have picked up the idea that prayer should sound a certain way or last a certain length. It doesn’t. Prayer is talking with a Father who already knows you and wants to hear from you anyway. Some days it is a full page. Some days it is one honest sentence in the car. God does not grade it. You do not have to build a whole routine before you begin. There are small, simple things that may help, and we can start with just one.

When you don’t know what to say.

Sometimes you sit down to pray and nothing comes. The need is real, but the words are not. You may feel guilty about that, as if silence means you don’t care. Paul says the opposite: the Spirit prays with you when you can’t.

“Now in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”

You are never praying alone. When your words run out, His Spirit carries what you could not say.

Remember Who is near.

Prayer can feel like talking into an empty room. Scripture says the room is not empty.

The LORD is near to all who call on Him, To all who call on Him in truth.

— Psalm 145:18

You don’t have to reach Him. He is already near. What He asks for is truth, not polish. Maybe today’s next step is simply this: Lord, here is what is actually on my heart.

Take one truth with you.

“The LORD is near to all who call on Him, To all who call on Him in truth.”

You don’t have to download anything. You don’t have to buy anything. You don’t have to get the words right today. Just know that when you call on Him honestly, He is near.

No audience, no performance.

It is easy to turn prayer into something we perform, even when no one is watching. We measure it against other people’s prayers and feel behind. Jesus points us somewhere quieter: a closed door and a Father who sees.

“But as for you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.”

The reward Jesus describes is not a better prayer. It is the Father Himself, met in secret. You can pray briefly and imperfectly, and He will still be there every time you close the door.
